Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP)
What Is MIHP?
The Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) is a free, voluntary home- and community-based program available to pregnant people and families with infants up to 12 months old who are enrolled in Michigan Medicaid.
MIHP is designed to improve birth outcomes, reduce health risks, and support healthy pregnancies and infants by addressing medical, social, emotional, and environmental factors that impact families during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Who Is Eligible?
You may be eligible for MIHP if you:
- Are pregnant or have a baby under 12 months of age
- Are enrolled in Michigan Medicaid
- Live in Michigan
- Want additional support during pregnancy or after birth
Our MIHP focuses on whole-family support, not just medical care. Our services include:
Health & Pregnancy Support
- Prenatal and postpartum health education
- Understanding prenatal care and pediatric visits
- Support with pregnancy-related conditions
- Education on infant development and care
Emotional & Social Support
- Stress management and coping strategies
- Support during major life transitions
- Postpartum adjustment and emotional wellness support
- Referrals for mental health services when needed
Infant & Parenting Education
- Safe sleep education
- Breastfeeding and feeding support referrals
- Infant bonding and development guidance
- Parenting education and confidence building
Resource Navigation & Referrals
- Help accessing housing, transportation, food, WIC, diapers, formula, and baby supplies
- Referrals to community organizations and support programs
- Connection to parenting classes, childbirth education, and home-visiting services
Care Coordination
- Support communicating with healthcare providers
- Help navigating appointments and follow-up care
- Ongoing check-ins throughout pregnancy and postpartum

At Harlee & Harper Women’s Association, MIHP services are delivered with a community-centered, culturally responsive approach that prioritizes dignity, trust, and empowerment, especially for Black and underserved mothers.

Our goal is to reduce isolation, strengthen knowledge, and help families feel supported throughout pregnancy and the first year of life.
